Saturday’s NHL bet du jour: Vegas at Dallas

Saturday’s NHL bet du jour: Vegas at Dallas article feature image

Joe (@pointshaving) and I (@stuckey2) put our heads together each morning to come up with our consensus play(s) of the day on the ice.

Stars -1 -110

The Dallas Stars could not ask for a better spot against a Vegas team that picked up a big victory last night, outlasting the Predators 4-3 in the shootout at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN. Malcolm Subban won his third straight start, making 41 saves, and while no goalie has been confirmed yet for Vegas, it is expected Maxime Lagace will get the call. Lagace has been lit up like a Christmas tree on the road, where he is 3-6-1 with a 4.10 goals against average, and a putrid .856 save percentage.

Vegas will have their hands full given the short rest and tough matchup against a Dallas team that has dominated visitors to the America Airline Center. On home ice, Dallas is 10-3 due to a pristine +1.23 goal differential, in large part due to Ben Bishop's outstanding play there (9-2, 1.85 GAA, .935 SV%). Additionally, Bishop neutered the Golden Knights in Vegas last week, stopping all 34 shots faced in a 3-0 Dallas win.

Not only will there be a significant advantage in net, but the Dallas Stars' top line of Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin and Devin Shore should also dominate for stretches of this game against a questionable Vegas defense that should be running on fumes late in the game. Vegas has been respectable on the road, but when they do lose, it is often in ugly fashion.

Dallas looked overmatched against two elite teams in the Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues, but they draw an excellent matchup tonight with Ben Bishop returning to guard the crease. The Stars should be good for at least three goals, possibly more, and if so, they should have no problem winning by more than a goal.

If you don't have access to -1 lines, you can always artificially create a -1 line using a ML/PL combination. For this particular wager, you would put .63 units on the Stars ML -170 and .37 units on the Stars PL +170. If you ever need help with the math, there are online calculators that can help, such as this one.

Fair Odds: Stars -1 -120

Others on the ice for Saturday:

  • Hurricanes +125
  • Senators +148

YTD: 22-23-1 -2.61 units
