Sunday’s NHL bet du jour: Nashville at Carolina
Joe (@pointshaving) and I (@stuckey2) put our heads together each morning to come up with our consensus play(s) of the day on the ice.
Hurricanes -120
Nashville has been on fire, winning nine of its last 10 including a 2-0 victory in St. Louis last time out, but here the Hurricanes are sandwiched between the Blues and Blackhawks for an early start non-conference game. After Cam Ward was tattooed by the Toronto Maple Leafs, Scott "Hit or Miss" Darling figures to get the call for the Hurricanes. Darling himself was lit up by the New York Rangers for six goals the other night, but he should bounce back nicely here. Have a look at his November numbers:
1, 1, 4, 1, 5, 1, 6, ?
We have talked about Carolina's underlying stats again and again, but here's a refresher: Carolina's 2.67 xGF/60 at 5-on-5 is tied for fourth-best in the National Hockey League while Nashville's 1.94 xGF/60 at 5-on-5 ranks third-worst. Nashville has been getting results, but it does not seem sustainable whereas Carolina, as usual, has not seen the puck bounce its way. Count on a big effort from Carolina today in a somewhat meaningless game for Nashville.
Fair Odds: Hurricanes -130
Nothing else on the ice for Sunday.
YTD: 19-16-1 +1.93 units
