The NHL Daily: Rolling with Colorado on a slow Sunday

The NHL Daily: Rolling with Colorado on a slow Sunday article feature image

Welcome to the NHL Daily. Go inside the NHL’s card for Sunday, Nov. 19, as we explore betting angles and try to find value in this volatile, cruel, good-for-nothing sport.

Nothing will get the winds of change gusting like the Canadiens getting blown out at home by the Maple Leafs. The Habs began the season with high expectations and were expected to compete with Toronto and Tampa Bay in the Atlantic, but that doesn't seem likely anymore. Even though the Canadiens have the third-best Corsi percentage and are creating more scoring chances than they are giving up, they sport a minus-23 goal differential this season.  The Canadiens are four points behind Ottawa in the Atlantic, so it's not like the season is a done deal at this time, but with the way things work in Montreal, it wouldn't be surprising to see Habs' general manager Marc Bergevin go full tilt and try and shake up his roster.

Last night's action:  The Jets made quick work of the Devils in a 5-2 win and we were on the right side of two overtime games as the Flames and Coyotes finished off a great afternoon of puck. Things got even rosier as the Islanders jumped out to a 4-0 lead and held on for dear life against the Lightning. The night ended with a couple of losses as Nashville handled Colorado with ease and the Sharks couldn't take advantage of a depleted Bruins' roster.

Tonight's slate:

Colorado is traveling on a back-to-back and will play backup goalie Jonathan Bernier in goal against the Red Wings on Sunday. It's an ugly situation but even though the Red Wings are right to be decent favorites, the line is out of whack. I make this one Avs +149, so it's a pretty big edge for the road dogs.

Pick: Avalanche +160

Season to date: 51-60, -2.04u
